The Max Ernst Museum

Brühl

competition  2002

The type of folding used here is meant to suggest a corpus attempting to span the entire ground floor level, appearing to support itself only at its northern and southern extremities.

The exterior space on the ground floor level flows through underneath the building.

The installed utilities have the character of lightweight pavilions.

The function-room will be integrated here in the second phase of construction.

The new building thrusts in the direction of Comesstraße, passing the alignment of the old building facade. Pedestrians and passing vehicles are given a clear signal that a museum is situated here. The two-storey street-side wall is decorated with a self-portrait of Ernst dating from 1948.
