The landscape situation of the University building of Design and Computer Science is the basic design concept of the project. A corpus hovering freely above the slope allows greenery to flow through beneath the building unhindered. The character of this site is to be preserved. A minimum of intervention will ensure that its ecological qualities will be retained as far as possible.
The institute building consists of two different components. On one side, the base of the lecture halls embedded in the slope of the meadow is part of the landscape and on the other, the freely hovering „house on stilts", whose revolving work-rooms allow staff and students a clear view of the landscape.
The climate and energy concept aims to minimize energy and equipment expenditure for the building by using natural resources. At the same time, pleasant and comfortable conditions should also be aimed at by adopting measures concerning eg. natural lighting and ventilation, the aerodynamic shape of roof lights causing negative wind pressure, voltage caused by electromagnetic radiation, pre-cooled air via underground ducts, and the use of thermal building elements for night time ventilation.
