Conversion and upward extension of the Körner Building
Hamburg

completion 1991

The Körner Building in Poststraße, erected in 1906,  numbers among the beautiful and original edifices in the city, a rounded construction resulting from the shape of the street. Even before renovation, it consisted of four storeys behind a massive natural stone façade topped by an almost invisible gabled attic space. In the course of acquiring a further storey-level, it has achieved a satisfying completeness by means of vertical steel beams curving round with the facade  – a harmonious extension to the building.
