The task of the Media House project was to remodel the former office building of the Zeise plant, which was built about 1870 as part of the marine-propeller factory, to enable manifold utilization.
Together with the adjacent media center, Zeisehallen, a large number of small-sized units for various enterprises in the media branch are to be established.
The intention to preserve the industrial character of the building and, at the same time, integrate a new type of utilization has lead to a remarkable architectural solution. In cooperation with the Authority for the Protection of Historical Monuments, a way was sought to preserve the ancient street facade while also enlarging the area of utilization. The idea to „cut out“ the building in the middle and build on the part facing the yard proved to be the solution. On the yard side, additional space was created so that the listed historical facade on the street side could be reconstructed. As the statics of the backyard façade were not designed to carry any additional load, an independent clearly defined steel construction was positioned over the existing building. Thanks to the „cutting-out“ in the interior, a generous central hall came into being., It is intended as a meeting point to encourage communication throughout the building in many different ways, with events, cinema shows and exhibitions.(mit Dinse - Feest Architekten)
