Havekollegiet's new building closes the gap between existing housing to the east and the campus avenue to the west. It forms an important spatial flank and public use on the ground floor level has created a new meeting point for students and inhabitants of Trekroner alike. Shops and a cafe with a generous wooden porch-terrace invite passers-by in to stay and tarry awhile.

The angular shape of the building separates the public from the private areas and forms, together with the garden's green ramp, a residential courtyard all to itself. Some flats for the handicapped have been integrated on the ground floor that can be reached without any barriers in the way. The upper levels are laid out with single-room students' flats with a communal kitchen serving each group. In front of the flats there is an arbor which gives access to the units while functioning as a garden-area for the residents. Following the "green ramp", the garden climbs to the first floor. Creeper trellises and plant tubs bring the garden climbing up past each further floor to the roof terrace.
