A high quality residential quarter based on our plans has arisen on the parklands, which had lain fallow for years, and belongs to the listed building Ladiges Villa in the suburb of Schulau.
The plot, which is near the Elbe, was given a cluster of eight individual buildings (70 living units) grouped like a frame around the listed villa. A public foot-and cycle-path was built through the once private property to allow access to the new building complex, which serves as a new short cut from the town centre to the harbour. Six free-standing three to four storey buildings are grouped along the way. Two more residential buildings -connected to Schlosskamp- are situated east of Ladiges villa.
With the close co-operation of the chief listed historical buildings society in Kiel, a new urban quality, sensitive in its growth, has been created at Schulau Harbour.
The flats are between 80 and 180 square metres in size and offer a wide spectrum of possible forms with a variety of floor-plans. The large, form-defining balconies jutting to the fore connect the interior space with the park and do not seldom afford a view of the Elbe. In keeping with the maritime character of the surroundings, the facades maintain a light colouring throughout. Individual wooden cladding and brick structures help create diversity among the cubic shapes of the buildings. All buildings have been constructed according to Standard 60 in compliance with the Credit bank for Redevelopment, contain solar-thermal plant and so enable a reduction in energy consumption costs.
